Moving towards the end of the season, the SHS girls soccer team sits at 3-10 and is hungry for victories. The Marion County tournament is their next opportunity to do so. The team will play Ben Davis in the tournament opener tomorrow, Sept. 24, and other games will be determined based on Monday night’s results.

Head coach Nicole Duncan sees this tournament as an opportunity to show the team’s skills and prepare for the Sectional tournament, starting on Oct. 2. She wants the team’s practice thus far to pay off in tournament play.

“I’m excited because anytime that you have a tournament, it’s time to put together all of the hard work that we’ve had during the season,” Duncan said.

In the week leading up to the tournament play, the team played a total of four games. This can be straining, but the team sees this as a way to prepare.

“We haven’t had a lot of practice time, but I think that our past games have helped us prepare a lot,” said junior center midfielder Kendall Henderson.

Henderson has high expectations in terms of upcoming play. She not only wants the team to get better, but she also wants to compete and turn their season around.

“We’re hoping to win (County) because it will give us motivation to win Sectionals,”  Henderson said. “I think it can be a big motivation boost for us.”
