The SHS girls swim team defeated the Speedway Sparkplugs Thursday night by a final score of 117-21.

The meet was never close, with Speedway not having enough swimmers to fill out many events of the night. Even when Speedway filled out an event, they couldn’t get many points out of that event. SHS outnumbered Speedway in every relay, and many single races as well. With a win almost guaranteed, the team might have had problems focusing during the meet. That wasn’t a problem, according to senior Alexis Odle.

“We had to have certain mentality about it,” Odle said. “We can’t expect that we’re going to win. We still had to swim our right time.”

Seniors Madison Bethel-Brown and Odle, juniors Jaclyn Boyer, Delaney Bucker, Caroline Chappell and Julianna Sullivan and sophomores Brontie Wright and Emma Lattimore all placed in the top two in their respective events.

The girls are next in action Wednesday, January 14th against Perry Meridian at home, starting at 5:30 p.m.
