Perry Township changes next year’s schedule
February 8, 2018
Next year, students in Perry Township will experience a change in their daily schedule as the start time for high school students changes from 7:05 to 7:10 a.m. Recently, the township has been facing some difficulties when it comes to busing, which includes elementary students getting home late in the day. The adjustment of start times should help to fix the problem according to the township website.
Sophomore Nate Kelley believes that students will benefit from the change, even if it is only five minutes. Kelley rides the bus in the morning and explained that instead of sleeping in for the extra five minutes, he is going to start picking out “better” clothes in the morning.
“There’s not really a big difference,” Kelley said, “but it is five minutes.”
Social studies teacher Nathan Fishel has three children, two of the children will be attending SHS and the other child will attend Southport Middle School next year. Instead of starting at 8 a.m. students at SMS will be starting at 8:10. He believes that it will most likely benefit the younger kids at the elementary and middle school level, because they will be able to sleep in later. Fishel explained that even though 7:10 a.m. is still early not the ideal time for students, they will have to adjust.
“(The early start time) goes against kind of a body clock,” Fishel said. “I think that it would benefit them more if we started (even) later.”
