About

The mission of the Southport High School newsmagazine The Journal and The Journal Rewired is to inform the Southport community of timely events and issues that affect their lives while being a voice for people within that community. 

 

Journal staff members will observe the same legal responsibilities as those imposed on all news media, and thus will refrain from production of material that:

  1. Is obscene, according to community standards;
  2. Is libelous, according to the legal definition;
  3. Creates a clear and present danger or an immediate material and substantial physical disruption of the school.

 

The Editor-in-Chief is solely responsible for all content.

 

Views found in the Journal do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Journal staff as a whole, or of the staff or administration of Southport High School or the Metropolitan School District of Perry Township.

We will produce appropriate content by

  1. Keeping a worldwide view.
  2. Not stereotyping a race or cultural group.
  3. Knowing what is being reported and to whom it is being reported.

 

We will collect and gather information in a way that

  1. Uses multiple sources
  2. Is credible and honest when providing information to the public
  3. Tells the full truth when reporting
  4. Never plagiarizes

 

We will avoid mistakes and respect them by

  1. Owning our mistakes
  2. Not embellishing our work
  3. Avoiding reporting and discussing topics in which the reporter has a personal connection
  4. Performing accuracy checks

 

We will exclude human nature by

  1. Not telling lies
  2. Not choosing sides
  3. Not sharing our position on a story unless the piece is specified opinion
