The SHS girls volleyball team won with style in a scrappy match against the Decatur Central High School Hawks with a final score of 3-1 on Aug. 19. The Lady Cards’s record moved to 1-1 as they prepare for North Central High School on Aug. 22. The Lady Cards lost to Plainfield High School on Aug. 16.

The team started off rough but soon worked themselves into a rhythm. Players communicating and playing physical was key to the offense, according to head Coach Hoffman. Many players including senior Vanessa Miller and junior Rachel Campbell were consistently diving and digging to make plays.

The Lady Cards won in four sets with a total of 93 points. Key leaders from the match were senior Lauren Cullison, Campbell and sophomore Aija Bowman. Together, the trio had a combined total of 37 kills and 51 digs. Cullison led the team with 24 kills and 15 digs.

“There’s a sort of pressure to do good and I think that is what happened in the first set, and so once we got over that, everything started to flow,” Hoffman said. “They kind of relaxed and we finally got in our groove.”
