December 10, 2014
Senior Van Lian was mentioned first team all state last week and on December 9, he was mentioned by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America to the All-Region team.
Only seven other players in Indiana received this honor and is the first soccer player to be mentioned first team all state or all region team in Perry Township history. This is one step below being named to the All-American team.
“I feel great,” Lian said. “I’m proud of myself. I want to thank the coach and the team.”
Varsity head coach Josh Brown says that Lian received the highest amount of votes in the district.
Lian had a total of 21 goals this season and seven assists and led the team in both categories. Along with leading the team, Lian led the conference in goals and assists.
“Alian (Lian) was our MVP, everything we did went through him,” Brown said. “He is irreplaceable as a player and a leader. He was also one of our captains, and every player on the team looked up to him. Words alone cannot describe the impact he had for our team.”
Lian wants to play soccer in college at Uindy and has visited there. According to Brown, Lian will most likely play there. Brown said that UIndy head coach John Higgins watched Lian played for five minutes and immediately knew he wanted Lian to play at UIndy next year.
