The SHS Cards wrestling team takes a defeat but plans on bouncing back
The SHS Cardinals wrestling team took a tough loss to Franklin Community on Dec. 2. The Cards lost to the Cubs 42-24. The Cards started out with wins from the middle weights but got down big once it came to the upper weights. According to head wrestling coach Nick Skinner, Franklin is tough at the upper weights, such as 182, 195, 220 and 228, while the Cards are a little weaker at the top.
One of the key wins that helped the Cards in this tough dual was junior Duvonte Rivers (160 lbs.) who got a pin.
“It felt good to get that win,” Rivers said. “Hard work pays off. I need to keep the same energy and keep working to keep on winning.”
The Cards had to win the close matches in order to win or keep it close. Senior Thang Chin (132 lbs.) finished the night strong with a win in the last few seconds of his match.
“(Freshman)Keegan Dresslar (106 lbs.) losing his match was really heartbreaking,” Skinner said. “I put him in a tough spot by putting him up top and losing by one point. But we had to pin out win the dual meet and I needed him to stick that kid.”
The Cards are back in action on Saturday at Westfield at the Shamrock Duals. The Card’s next dual meet is against the township rival Perry Meridian Falcons on Dec 8.
