Since starting coaching at SHS in 2017, head girls volleyball coach Chelsea Hoffman has had a long line of players on her team. Now, because of those girls, Hoffman achieved her 100th win as head coach on Aug. 29 against Terre Haute South.
How does it feel to get to 100 wins?
It feels good. It’s kind of weird, because I went here, and so I know (that) there has been a lot of coaches in and out since even when I played here, so to be able to say that I’ve had a hundred wins, it’s awesome, but it’s more of the girls. The girls are the ones who do it.
How does getting 100 wins with this group of girls mean to you?
It’s a lot. This is one of those groups that I’ve coached them since they were in middle school … they’ve bought into my culture, (and) they’ve bought into my program, so being able to do it with them, it shows what I have done is working.
What has been your favorite memory coaching at SHS?
Obviously Perry last year was huge. We hadn’t beat Perry in a regular season game since my senior year, so that was huge. Obviously, we’ve won invites, we’ve won some good conference games, but beating Perry, it’s beating Perry.
Because 100 wins is a huge accomplishment, what is your next goal for either this season or your coaching career?
Win conference.
Is there anyone you would like to thank who has helped you throughout your career as a coach?
Obviously my parents, my husband (and) my family, but my coaches and my sister especially. She has been kind of the big person through all of this, but then obviously the players, obviously I couldn’t get a win without the players.
