School spirit can be defined as a connection of pride shared between everyone involved in a school environment. Throughout a person’s time in high school, they experience a certain amount of school spirit. This can be shown through after-school activities, school performances or school events. 

While school spirit has been common since the 20th century, it has taken a turn and changed drastically. 

Now, throughout a person’s time in high school, they experience less and less spirit and pride in their school. But to improve a long-lasting tradition, students need to have a little more school spirit. 

School spirit started to become popular once schools wanted to gain some kind of distinction from each other. So in order to accomplish this, schools, specifically high schools, began to find ways in order for students and faculty members to show off their pride.

As time continued and schools became more populated, school spirit started to grow and become something that every school had. But throughout recent years, school spirit hasn’t been as noticeable as it used to be.

Nowadays, high school students don’t show as much pride as they used to. 

Since high schoolers are expected to act almost like adults, they are constantly under a lot of pressure. For example, many are trying to keep their grades up while also trying to maintain a job in order for them to earn some money. 

With students being pushed to perform well in school and without having much interest, it has had an effect on the students’ opinion about school. 

Without many reasons to actually like school, many students think that school isn’t interesting at all, which can lead to some students dropping out. 

In order to solve this problem, everyone should get more involved in their school, either by joining a club, sport or any activity that the school offers. This would lead to students, as well as teachers, having more pride in their school. 

Schools were once a place where people could meet each other and become best friends for the rest of their lives. It was a place for people to come together and help each other in whatever they needed. But above all, it was mostly a place where everyone would share a common interest, passion and enjoyment. 

But as times passed, it became more of a place that most people disliked, or didn’t have an interest in, but with some changes, it can be what it used to be. 

Everyone needs more school spirit and pride in their school, particularly students, in order for everyone to come together as a community.
