At 5:34 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, the Associated Press declared Donald Trump the winner of the U.S. presidential race.
Now that the election has concluded, many people have been left wondering about what happens next.
One of the possible changes that people are wondering about is the education system. Trump plans to modify the education system in a few different ways. This involves defunding schools that are promoting critical race theory or “woke” ideologies.
According to PBS News, “On his first day of office, Trump has repeatedly said he will cut money to ‘any school pushing critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content on our children.’”
He proposed to shut down the Department of Education and “send it back to the states,” according to Forbes.
Trump says that he and his administration want the states to run education for children because they’ll do a much better job of it.
He also has big plans with the environment and energy usage. Trump plans to extend fossil fuel exploration and reduce environmental standards that President Joe Biden put in place.
Back in 2020, former President Trump removed America from the Paris Climate Agreement, which is a treaty that attempts to cut greenhouse gas emissions and help prevent global warming. In 2021, Biden put the U.S. back in the Paris Climate Agreement. Now, Trump is planning on removing the country from the agreement again.
He wants to boost fossil fuel production, dismantle support for renewable energy and reduce rules aimed at preventing pollution.
According to USAToday, part of Trump’s campaign is that the U.S. is going to “drill, baby, drill.” He’s expected to open up more areas for oil and gas drilling.
Trump has also been clear that he plans to lift federal rules requiring that car manufacturers move towards producing electric vehicles and other low emission vehicles.
Another issue Trump is focusing a lot on right now is tariffs.
According to PBS News, Trump said, “tariffs are the greatest thing ever invented.”
He has proposed a 60% tariff on goods from China and a tariff of up to 20% on everything else the U.S. imports.
Trump also proposed the idea of putting a 100% tariff on Mexican-made goods. This is a move that could negatively affect the deal that Trump’s administration negotiated with Canada and Mexico.
Trump’s views on abortion have also caused nationwide disputes. Trump has said that he wouldn’t sign a federal abortion ban and that the states should decide their own policies.
While Trump said he doesn’t want a national abortion ban, Vice-President-elect J.D. Vance has suggested that he would support a national law limiting abortion.
Something else people wonder about is what Trump is going to do about the war in Ukraine. Trump claims he could quickly resolve the war in Ukraine and says that he will give no additional money to Ukraine.
According to him, it’s in the best interest of the U.S. to end the war in Ukraine as quickly as possible.
Trump has also said that he wants a better relationship with Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin.
Trump’s inauguration will take place on Jan. 20 at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. This will be Trump’s second inauguration, this time as the 47th president of the U.S.
This will mark the commencement of Trump’s second and non-consecutive term as the U.S. president and the term of Vance as the 50th vice president. This is the first non-consecutive re-inauguration for a U.S. president since the second inauguration of Grover Cleveland in 1893.
