The year 2024 has had numerous albums released by a wide range of musical artists, representing various genres and styles. According to Billboard, some of the most popular albums have been released this year. The top three albums of 2024 are “U Made Me a St4r” by 4batz, “Eternal Sunshine” by Ariana Grande and “The Year I Turned 21” by Ayra Starr. Over time, music has spread all over the world, including SHS.
Many students listen to a variety of different music and genres, for example, pop, alternative pop, country, hip-hop and rap. Here are what some students believe to be their favorite albums of 2024.
Sonya Rees
Junior Sonya Rees says that her favorite album is Megan Moroney’s country album “Am I Okay?” Moroney is Rees’s favorite artist, and she believes her songs are “amazing.” She says that her favorite song from the album was “Tennessee Orange.” Rees hasn’t always been into country music, but once her friends introduced her to it, she ended up loving it. Once Megan Moroney came out with her new album, Rees was very excited to listen to it. “It’s a mixture of emotions,” Rees said. “Some of her songs are really happy, some are sad, but I like all of the different emotions.”
Marlee Chafin
Sophomore Marlee Chafin says that her favorite album is “Twisters: The Album” with songs from various country and Americana music artists. She says that her favorite songs from the album are “Death Wish Love” by Benson Boone and “Song While You’re Away” by Tyler Childers. She says that the album in general just makes her happy. Chafin began listening to “Twisters: The Album” when she heard the movie “Twisters” came out and she thought it was something she would like. “It makes me feel happy, and I really like it. I like the vibe,” Chafin said.
Giezi Torres
Freshman Giezi Torres says that his favorite album from this year was Ken Carson’s “A Great Chaos.” The genre of music in this album is hip-hop and rap. Torres says he started listening to the album as soon as it came out. He says his brother introduced him to the album because he thought it was good because he thought it was good and that Torres should start listening to it. He likes this album because he thinks it’s good to listen to. His favorite song from it is “Fight of My Demons.” “I really like the music,” Torres said. “It makes me feel good.”
Simeon Thang
Sophomore Simeon Thang says that his favorite album from this year is Billie Eilish’s new album, “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.” The genre of this album is alternative bedroom pop. His favorite songs from the album are “WILDFLOWER” and “L’AMOUR DE MA VIE.” Thang likes the album because he believes it is very calming. He started listening to this album when it got released because it was “pretty hyped up.” He wanted to listen to it and expand his music collection. Once he listened to “BIRDS OF A FEATHER,” “WILDFLOWER” and “L’AMOUR DE MA VIE,” he started loving the album a lot. “It makes me feel very comforting, and it’s a very calming album,” Thang said. “And I just like the emotions that it displays in the album.”
Anna Grehn
Senior Anna Grehn says that her favorite album of 2024 is Ariana Grande’s pop album “Eternal Sunshine.” Her favorite song from the album was “We Can’t Be Friends.” She says that the album and the song helped her get through a hard time. She started listening to “Eternal Sunshine” as soon as it was released. When Grehn was growing up, she watched Grande on Nickelodeon and fell in love with her voice. She says “Eternal Sunshine” is her favorite because she feels like she can connect with the lyrics, and the feelings the song produces make her feel better. “‘We Can’t Be Friends’ really stuck to me because I was going through a really bad break up over the summer, which kind of ended badly,” Grehn said. “That song just really helped me heal, and the album just slowly made me feel better and feel more confident in myself.”
