Romance
Picking up a romance book is a great way to start the festivities of Valentine’s Day.
A great romance book to read is “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. The book, first published in 1813, features two main characters, Elizabeth Bennet, a girl from the countryside, and Mr. Darcy, an extremely wealthy man. Both start off as rivals, which is only worsened by Mr. Darcy‘s pride and Elizabeth’s prejudice.
Their chemistry soon changes as they are able to look past each other’s flaws and find a deeper connection ending in a romantic love confession in the rain.
This book is truly one of a kind, as it portrays real life struggles as well as personal growth.
Another romance book to read is “Better Than the Movies” by Lynn Painter. This book tells a charming and endearing romance between the two main characters, Liz Buxbaum and Wes Bennett. Their story begins with their journey from a playful childhood rivalry that follows into high school.
While reading, the reader gets a sense of their profoundly different but magnetic personalities.
Whereas Liz is a hopeless romantic, Wes is a grounded realist. Throughout the novel, Painter depicts their growing relationships through heartfelt moments that read like a cheesy rom-com.
For anyone looking for the warmth and comfort of Valentine’s Day in between the pages, “Better Than the Movies” is the perfect romance novel.
Thriller/Suspense
The murder mystery genre is packed with tension and anticipation, allowing anyone to play the role of detective.
This genre gives an undeniable thrill of suspense and blood-chilling twists.
The novel “Going Dark” by Melissa de la Cruz has her readers unable to put her book down. Each page is filled with suspenseful plot twists and sinister truths. The main character, influencer Amelia Ashley, disappears while on vacation with her boyfriend. With her boyfriend being the prime suspect behind her disappearance, the rosy tint of the picture-perfect couple starts to fade, and with each page comes a new secret.
The novel is told through multiple perspectives, which unfolds the possibilities of unreliable narrators.
Throughout the book, de la Cruz has the reader questioning every character, and each move comes with a motive.
This compelling novel mixes a unique combination of murder mystery books “Gone Girl” and “The Obsession.” This book is the ideal fast-paced and layered crime story.
Classic literature
Throughout time, classic literature novels have been adored by different generations and groups of people, being able to withstand the test of time.
The strong emotions conveyed by such intricate and precisely chosen words is one of most unique features of classic literature. A great choice from the genre is “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott.
This book follows the difficult lives of the March sisters, Jo, Amy, Beth and Meg, as they head into womanhood and start to make difficult decisions for themselves, shaping their future and their societal roles while keeping true to themselves.
This is an inspiring story for many young people out there. All in all, classic literature will always be a window into the past demonstrating that there is plenty to learn and take from.
