With being in Booster Club, I am constantly thinking of ways to get more people to games and events.
One morning, I was talking with some friends on Booster Club about a MaxPreps post. They reposted this idea that a fan of high school sports had: “One (high school) game per season between districts should happen during the school day. Imagine the student turnout.”
After hearing about this idea, my friends and I loved it, and recently, I haven’t been able to get it out of my head.
What if it was possible? Honestly, I think it could be.
Let’s say SHS wanted to host a basketball game during the school day.
It would obviously not be during instructional time.
So what about an iPass on a Friday? Warm-ups could start during iPass and tip-off around the end of the school day or even a little bit after.
The opposing team would have to bus in a bit early and miss a little of class, but that happens already for games that are far away.
There are so many benefits to this. For example, student turnout would be amazing. The student section would triple in size because students are already at the school and don’t need to find a ride to get to the game.
Also, there would be so much opportunity to make money from this with the amount of students at the game from concessions and ticket sales.
I think the best way to go about this would be to make it a game against Perry Meridian.
That way, the ride for the away team isn’t as far.
Also, I think more people go to games against Perry Meridian anyway, so that would be better all round.
It’s easily our most attended event, so why not make it better and have even more people attend the game?
I’ve heard about this idea many times from a ton of different people, so I don’t think most people would be opposed to it.
We should definitely do it for more events too.
I think it could help student attendance at games that aren’t attended that much already.
For example, maybe it isn’t needed for football, but maybe a sport like baseball or softball.
We could treat it like a pep session in terms of how students would sign up.
During iPass, those who filled out the form to go to the game would get a pass to go down to the Fieldhouse.
When school ends then those who didn’t sign up, but might want to go now, can go because school is over anyway.
I’m sure that there are many factors that I’m unaware of, but I still think it’s a great idea to consider.
Even though it might be difficult to do, having a game during the school day would be extremely beneficial all around.

Aiden Quinlin, Sports Editor
I’m back for the second year in a row! I’m super excited to take on a new role as Sports Editor this time around. To introduce myself again, I’ll just start with the basic stuff. My name is Aiden Quinlin, and I’m pretty involved here at SHS. I play baseball for the school team, and I serve as a Booster Club officer, as well as write here on The Journal plus The Anchor, our yearbook staff. Outside of school, I play travel baseball, so my summer is pretty packed. Anyways, get in the student section and go read my work!
