Boys soccer to face off against rivals in sectional play

Senior Mang Lian dribbles past a Perry defender. Lian has scored 10 goals this season.

Last time the boy’s soccer team played the Perry Meridian Falcons, SHS lost a close game, 3-2. This Wednesday they have a chance for redemption as they face the Falcons in their opening Sectional game.

“We knew if we were going to win sectionals, we would have to go through Perry at some point,” said Coach Josh Brown.

Before their first matchup, Perry and SHS both had played the same teams and had similar results. In months that has passed since their last game, their schedules have differed little. Both have finished their Conference Indiana schedule against Columbus North and Franklin Central. Both teams beat Franklin Central, but Perry also lost to Columbus North to accompany their win.

Both teams have six losses and two ties. SHS has won eight games, but Perry has only won seven, but has played one less game. The difference between a .533 win percentage and a .563 percentage is minute, so their records tell Brown that SHS has gotten slightly better than their rivals.

“After the first game, even though we lost, I thought we were the better team,” Brown said.
