Ms. Katherine Doty, the new choir teacher at SHS, is excited to announce that this year’s fall musical will be “The Sound of Music.” This is Doty’s first musical at SHS, which is why a classic by Rodgers and Hammerstein was chosen.

“We decided to go with something this year that people would possibly know and identify with,” Doty said. “Many teachers, parents and members of the community will be anxious to come and see Southport’s production of “The Sound of Music.”

Any students that are interested in possibly playing their favorite character can come to auditions on Tuesday, Sept. 2 and Wednesday, Sept. 3. Callbacks will be the next day,Thursday, Sept. 4. Doty wants students to know that they can come see herself or Ms. Barb Whitlock for audition information. They can both help answer any questions interested students may have concerning the upcoming musical.

“It’s kind of a classic, I like it,” Doty said.

The next month’s following auditions will be busy for the cast and crew of the musical. They will be preparing for the musical’s three showings on Nov. 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. and  Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m.
