Perry Township schools participate in an Art Show  hosted at Perry Meridian High School. The art show displays students with artistic ability and presents their work for all viewers to see.

These students spend time in their art classes each day working on these possible Art Show entries. Junior Bronitie Wright was in the art show last year and is again this year. Wright has taken art classes since she was a sophomore and plans to continue them next year. Through high school Wright has only had Anthony Pernell as an art teacher. She enjoys having him and would say they have a close relationship. This year she is taking Pernell’s advanced drawing class.

“Art is relaxing, and you can just kind of decompress if you are stressed at school or anything,” Wright said. “It’s also fun to do projects and see how much you’ve done or improved.”

Last year Wright had several drawings entered, she says her favorite was a drawing of an elderly man she did. This year she plans to have at least two colored pencil pieces.

Similar to Wright, junior Chaney Elliot has been taking art classes through all of his high school career. He had started taking these classes before high school. He took classes freshman year and plans to go on with them for the rest of his high school career.

Currently, Elliot is taking Pernell’s class. He started in an intro art class, moved on to drawing and plans to go on to more advanced classes. This year in the art show, Elliot is entering a pointillism drawing of a jaguar.

Elliot says he has been putting art into the art show since he was in elementary school. This year in the art show Elliot is entering a pointillism piece of a jaguar.

“(Art) is almost therapeutic too. It kind of puts me in a zone, and I get thinking about stuff. I enjoying being creative,” Elliot said. “I like looking at other people’s art work. It’s interesting. I like to look and see other people’s mindset and what they go through when they draw.”
