Boys volleyball prepares for state
May 18, 2017
The boys volleyball team has advanced to the state tournament for the ninth time in school history and for the second time in four years. The ninth seeded SHS team beat the 24 seed Hamilton Southeastern in the first round of the playoffs, then in the regional championship, SHS beat the eighth seeded Cardinal Ritter team.
“Once you get into the last eight (teams left), everybody is insanely good,” head coach Ethan Coffman said.
Coffman who is in his fourth season coaching said that this is his second team to make it to the state finals. He thinks that this year’s team has the capability to win the championship because they have the potential and they have already showed that they can already beat a higher seed.
“I think that if we play really well, we can make it a really good game,” senior Lane Skutt said.
The SHS team will face the number one team in the state the Carmel Greyhounds Friday night at 6 in the fieldhouse.
“This is definitely a year where there are a lot of good teams but all the top teams have beat each other,” Coffman said. “So we are really psyched to play them because this could be a year where we actually win the first game and make a push (to the finals).”
