On Aug. 31 in a south side, non-conference match up, the SHS Cardinals took on the Franklin Central Flashes.

Last year, the Cards lost to the Flashes 0-5. Coach Alireza Taghizadehafshari (Taghi) talks about how happy and proud he is with the team for how they played last night and other matches so far this year.

“We lost to them last year 5-0,” Taghi said. “But tonight we beat them 3-2, but believe me we had a chance to beat them 5-0… I am pretty happy.”

Taghi goes on to talk about how proud he is of junior Colston Streit for “bageling” his opponent. The term “bagel” refers to when one player beats their opponent 6-0 in a set.

“(I feel) pretty good,” Streit said. “It’s been rough the past few days with some really good matches, but this one was a good one for me.”

The Cards are set to take on Bloomington South on Sep. 05 at SHS.
