`Last year, a 4-3 loss in overtime against Roncalli in the 2A semifinals of sectionals ended their season. This year though, they have moved up to 3A and managed to achieve the first round bye.

Tonight at 5, the SHS boys soccer team will be competing in the sectional semifinals where they  will face off against the Perry Meridian Falcons at Franklin Community High School. This was decided Monday when Perry and Center Grove faced off and the Falcons defeated the Trojans 2-1 with a last minute goal.

¨Center Grove seems like the more superior team this year,¨ SHS head soccer coach David Stroup said hours before the Trojans lost.

Based on statistics, this was an unexpected result. According to MaxPreps, the Trojans had a record of 12-3-1, whereas the Falcon´s record was 9-6-1. The Trojans had 32 total assists to the Falcons 25,  a higher total of assists per match, 2.0 to Perry´s 1.8 and more total points, 102 to Perry´s 99.

However, this regular season, the Falcons have scored more goals than the Trojans (37-35), have a higher total of goals per match (2.6-2.2) and have a higher total of point per match (7.10-6.4).

“If we come out and play how we are supposed to and how we know we can play we’ll be fine,” senior team captain Hunter Cocherell said.
