Seniors Lucas Willoughby (left) and Eddie Schott (right) play against the Roncalli Rebels on Aug. 17. SHS won the game 36-28.

In the beginning weeks of the SHS football season, players have been able to perform very well statistically. According to MaxPreps, senior quarterback Eddie Schott leads the state in passing yards, senior receiver Lucas Willoughby has the third most receiving yards in the state and SHS is 16th in the state for football after the first two weeks of play.

Schott already has 739 passing yards and has a 69 percent completion rate in his passes. This leads the state by 172 yards. He says that he is very happy with the play shown by his team this year.

“I think, especially this year, I have really good playmakers, really good receivers and I have a really good (offensive) line,” Schott said concerning his success on the field.

Willoughby has also been able to make statistical strides. He has the third most receiving yards in the state of Indiana, and is only 27 yards off from the current leader. He also has the longest single play of the season with a play of 99 yards, which is an SHS record.

Not only is Willoughby improving, but he says he sees other players improving through their chemistry with each other.

“Definitely chemistry, so having a better relationship with my teammates and definitely Eddie,” Willoughby said.

These two will be in action tonight at 7 p.m. at SHS against Columbus North.
