Senior Noah Fishel swims freestyle during a meet in this past season. Fishel is one of the team’s best returning swimmers.

Last year, the SHS boys swimming team’s season ended during sectionals. With key returners, like seniors Drew Reinke and Noah Fishel and junior Drew Shellenberger, the swim team hopes to make their way back to sectionals and all the way on to state.

“I believe we could go undefeated,” Reinke said.

Last year was a record-breaking season for Reinke, Fishel, Shellenberger and graduate Scott Speiser, as they broke the 400 yard freestyle relay, twice. The first time was on Feb. 15, when they broke the record of 3:23 at 3:21.03. The second time was just two days later on Feb. 17, when they broke their own record with a time of 3:19.98.

With three out of the four returning, Reinke hopes to be able to break the record yet again. Along with breaking records, head coach Matt Jefferies hopes to be able to go to state.

“(I expect to) break records and send some kids to state,” Jefferies said.

The teams first meet of the season is on Monday, Nov. 19 against Roncalli High School.
