Grandma’s Christmas sugar cookies
Ingredients:
½ cup salted butter, softened
2 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon almond extract
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
Sprinkles of your choosing (Optional)
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, beat together the butter, cream cheese, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and almond extract. Beat them for 4-5 minutes, until light and fluffy.
2. Add the flour, cornstarch, baking soda and salt. Mix them together on a low speed until a soft dough forms.
3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let chill for 2 hours.
4. Once the dough has chilled, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
5. Portion the dough into 1 inch scoops and roll into balls. Put the balls on a greased cookie sheet, about 1 inch apart from each other.
6. Create a criss cross pattern by pressing the fork lightly into the cookie dough.
7. Sprinkle the sprinkles on top of each cookie. (Optional)
8. Bake the cookies for 9 to 11 minutes. They shouldn’t be left in long enough to be brown on the edges, they’re meant to be soft.
9. Let the cookies cool and then enjoy!
