Last Friday, the boys basketball team beat rival Perry Meridian, 80-51. A full student section and a gym that was almost filled, gave the Cards home field advantage on their home court.

Sophomore Paul Scruggs had 22 points in the winning effort and didn’t miss a shot until the middle of the third quarter. Scruggs also had six rebounds and five assists. Junior Joey Brunk was selected as the player of the game with 19 rebounds, eight rebounds and six assists.

Head coach Kyle Simpson says that the team working together was a big part of the game plan, and he says that it is a big plan during all of the games they play as a team.

“If they stick to the game plan and trust each other, good things can happen,” Simpson said. “I thought that we got caught up in the hype in mid-January, and we are learning that it’s a journey and it’s a battle (to make a deep run through the playoffs).”

Simpson says that the team may have to play Perry Meridian again when the sectional tournament rolls around. He says they that have to be ready for “another war” against Perry Meridian to advance on.

The Cards play at home on Thursday,  Feb. 12 against Bedford North Lawrence (8-12) at 7:30.
