Is travel baseball worth it?

The common debate between the idea of whether travel baseball is worth it or not should be a no brainer.

High school baseball teams only play around 25 games a season, and there aren’t even that many because of rain cancellations, lack of umpires and other reasons. That is not nearly enough.

And it doesn’t help at all that baseball is a spring sport because that means that the season is going to be rushed and the games are going to be played in a small window of time before the school year ends.

So that means less practice as well. Just playing high school baseball isn’t enough for a guy that loves the game or wants to improve his craft to the highest of his own ability.

Travel baseball offers a solution to these problems. There are more games in the summer after school ball and there are more practices.

It also helps with exposure. College scouts can only go to so many high school games, travel ball helps put your name out there, whether that is D1, D2, D3, NAIA, etc.

However it can be expensive. The good news is there are some teams out there that don’t travel as far or as often. So that is less money for hotels and other things like that.

Most teams have entry fees just to be on the team and get a uniform. But some little leagues have all star teams or Sunday showcase teams that are travel teams just not big organizations that require extreme amounts of money.

If little leagues were still as popular and had as many players as they used to, the argument would be very one-sided and there wouldn’t be a reason to even think about playing travel baseball.

But sadly that is not the case. Little leagues are losing more and more players every year and eventually they will be a thing of the past.

Travel baseball is not necessary but it is something that parents and players should consider if they really love the sport.

Aiden Quinlin, Sports Reporter
What's up? My name is Aiden Quinlin and I’m a sports reporter this year. I’m a sophomore and this is my first year on The Journal. I’m on the football team currently, and I’m hoping to be on the baseball team this year as well. I play travel baseball, so my summer is pretty packed. Baseball is my true passion, however, and I could talk with anyone all day about it. As you could imagine, I love working out and lifting weights. I also love to travel and go on trips with friends and family. I’m in a family of four with my mom, dad and sister. One of my biggest problems right now is probably watching too much YouTube. Additionally, I love to play video games even though I’m pretty trash at any game I play. Anyway, this is my first year on The Journal, so go read my stuff!
