Halloween is the perfect and only time to dress up and go door to door for some free candy. But why do these festivities have an age limit?
Of course, I understand that full grown adults shouldn’t go door-to-door trick or treating (unless with a little kid), but it’s perfectly fine to continue acting young when you’re under 18.
Many believe that once you turn 13, it’s time to grow up. I remember being told when I was young that it was illegal to go trick or treating at that age or above, when that simply isn’t true.
Someone shouldn’t be forced out of a tradition until they’re ready. It’s truly up to each individual to decide when they’re too old. I, for example, went trick or treating up until this year, in which now I feel old enough to start new traditions.
This doesn’t mean I won’t be dressing up. That’s one of the best parts of Halloween. I’ll just be participating in things like parties and haunted houses instead of trick or treating.
Of course, I have many friends who still plan on trick or treating, and I’m glad they are! They shouldn’t feel badly for wanting to celebrate a certain way, even if it’s no longer “my thing.”
Halloween is a time for fun, and nobody is too old to have fun. Even if you consider yourself “too old” to trick or treat, there’s so much more to Halloween.
Especially as you enter your teenage years, embrace the thrilling and scary aspects of Halloween. Watch scary movies, go to haunted houses, play horror games, maybe even dress up creepier than you did as a kid.
Even if you aren’t into the spooky parts of the season, there is still so much you can do to celebrate Halloween. Hang out with friends and family, carve pumpkins, have fall themed treats, dress up in a fun costume and be a kid for just a little bit longer.
Don’t rush the process of growing up just to seem mature or cool. It’ll only lead you to regret it later.
Celebrate this special time how you want to, with whomever you want to, as long as it’s safe.
The point is, being young is taken for granted way too often, so don’t let Halloween be a time of regret. Let it be a thrilling and maybe even scary show of youth.
