After this most recent election, many are disappointed. Not just in one candidate or another, or all those who decided not to vote, but in the system itself.
This election showed how ineffective a two-party system can be. Many people didn’t like either of the presidential candidates, yet voting third party is seen as a “wasted vote.”
Our current system, all parties included, is wildly corrupt and could send our country into a downward spiral if ideals don’t change.
This year, Americans bore witness to hate campaigns and promised policies, or a lack thereof, that don’t truly benefit American people.
America has been advertised as the land of the free, a place for all, for centuries. Now, it feels as though politicians want to strip rights away from a majority of citizens just to become richer.
They stand at their podiums arguing about what freedom is and isn’t. They talk about what “issues” are plaguing America without actually talking about problems the people are facing.
They preach about religious freedom, but only if it’s their own, and allow for it to make decisions for those who may not be religious or follow a separate religion.
Religion and state are meant to be separated, and until recently, they at least tried to pretend they were. The first amendment is why religious freedom exists in America. Laws and bills rooted in religion force decisions on people that may go against their faith.
Ideologies are pushed onto those just trying to make it by. Politicians make decisions that God “would have supported” while forgetting to love thy neighbor as they would themselves.
The American people are being taught to distrust experts and are being encouraged to be ignorant. Politicians love stupid people.
We are Americans. We are encouraged to choose a side, to see everything as black and white, when most issues are gray.
The U.S. is less united than it has been in a long time. We need to be accepting of those around us, whether they’re Democrats or Republicans, gay or straight, immigrants or natural-born citizens.
This country was built on the backs of working-class citizens, not the top 1%. We need politicians to show the working class the gratitude they deserve and stop the hate.
The point is, we need to stop labeling everything as right or wrong when everything can’t be put in such a definite box. We need to listen to experts, not the lies whispered into our ears by politicians. And we need to stand united as our country promotes us to be. If we can’t do that, we’re all doomed.
