Through the years at SHS, dress code and lanyard checks have grown more common and students not following them has been a bigger issue.
Students have found ways to cheat the system to not get dress coded by wearing cover ups to certain classes or putting their lanyard on only for specific classrooms.
Though some staff are more lenient than others on these regulations, more of them should be on top of it. Having a dress code can be useful to the school and the environment you’re in.

It’s important for us to have a dress code because we are preparing ourselves for future work environments, and it’s important to reduce distractions in a professional setting.
If students dress appropriately throughout the day, this allows staff to not be concerned about what some are wearing.
Although some students find a dress code and lanyard checks as unnecessary rules, I think it’s a way to allow students and staff to be good representatives of our school.
Students think the dress code doesn’t give them the freedom to dress how they want.
But others think these dress codes are ways to keep the students respectful and safe.
“I don’t think it’s that bad, I wouldn’t walk around in inappropriate clothing,” freshman Cordelia Smelser said.
Although some students disagree with this perspective, it helps with the students’ safety. Being able to identify if students and staff are a part of SHS prevents the possibility of intruders, and it maintains everyone’s safety.
Overall, the school lets the students wear what they would like with the exception of some basic rules. But some people still see this as too strict.
But generally these rules are a good way to keep the students appropriately dressed and safe.
