The leaves are turning into different shades of orange, the weather is getting colder and pumpkin spice is everywhere. Fall break is approaching soon, giving students a much needed break from the constant routine of classes, tests and homework.
For many students, fall break is more than just time away from school. It’s a chance to recharge, relax and do things they enjoy.
However, some students may not know how to make the most of their break.
Here are some recommendations of places to go over fall break from the SHS community.
Anderson Orchard & Lark Ranch

Sophomore Mary Zo says that every year, she spends time doing activities with both her family and friends.
“My family and I always go apple picking at Anderson Orchard, which has become a habit, or I guess a tradition for us,” Zo said. “I don’t have any other family traditions in that time, but one of my other favorite activities is going to haunted houses with friends. They’re so much fun to experience with others and make me happy.”
Aside from apple picking and visiting haunted houses, Zo recommends that students check out Lark Ranch.
“For anyone looking for something nearby, I would recommend probably visiting the Lark Ranch, which is like 35 minutes from school. It’s really great and you can do a bunch of things like picking pumpkins, or pumpkin picking I mean, going on hayrides, and eating like a lot of food while being outside with the people I, or I mean you love.”
Newfields

Junior Marlee Chafin recommends that students visit Newfields, which is located in Indianapolis.
“I would recommend (Newfields) to students because it gives you something to do and it’s not super expensive to go either,” Chafin said. “It’s really fun because you can go with a bunch of friends.”
There are many things someone can do at Newfields. However, Chafin recommends people should walk around on the trails, get the good food and go to the haunted house.
“I like going there because fall is my favorite season,” Chafin said. “I just got really good vibes from there, and it was just a really pretty place to go.”
