As the 2025-2026 winter sports season starts, check out some of SHS’s student-athletes and how they are going to make an impact this season.
Hope Senteney

As the wrestling season begins, the girls prepare to follow up last year’s achievements and make it unforgettable. Specifically, sophomore Hope Senteney, hopes to move her way up to state for the second year in a row.
During her freshman year, Senteney took on a leadership role alongside upperclassmen to lead the girls wrestling team to state.
Senteney finished last year with a record of 11-9. Even though she didn’t place where she had desired, she hopes to claim victory this season.
Going into this season, she is ranked at seventh in the state according to IndianaMat.
Senteney has more experience under her belt, and her athleticism is one of her biggest strengths. With that being said, she hopes to use these aspects of her skillset to take her all the way to state finals.
“I have to say, it’s a nasty and natural athletic ability compared to other girls (Senteney has),” head coach Nick Skinner said.
Senteney is ready to start pushing her way through the matches to take home the state title.
Faith Johnson

In the upcoming season for the girls’ swim team, senior Faith Johnson is ready to face her last season.
Becoming a leader means a lot to Johnson. Forming a meaningful connection with her teammates is always a significant part of being on the team.
“I think my biggest strengths are being the leader on the team,” Johnson said. ¨Like we have a lot of new girls, so kind of like getting the girls connected is a big part of this season.”
As for her goals for her senior year, Johnson has made it a priority to make it memorable and to have fun. She also hopes to stay true to her competitiveness and take the training she has done out to the meets.
As the season continues, Johnson will keep supporting her team and will strive to make her times better.
Matthew Moreno
As senior Matthew Moreno approaches his last season of high school basketball, he has prepared himself to have a great season.

For Moreno, this is gonna be his first year on varsity. With this big jump from JV to varsity, Moreno has made many improvements from being a teammate and a player all around.
When looking back on last year, Moreno has taken the initiative to develop more skills in the off-season for this year.
“Win, that’s the end goal for everybody,” Moreno said. “For the past few seasons, we’ve just been half to 50. This time, we’re actually trying to win something.”
Moreno has taken a big step to become a part of this team and is looking forward to making everyone surprised.
