“Scarier,” “bigger” and “fan service-filled” are all words that have been used to describe the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie sequel “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” (FNAF 2).
“FNAF 2,” a film directed by Emma Tammi, has been commonly known for its big name actors. The movie stars Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard and more, while also including rising actors like Piper Rubio and Freddy Carter.
The movie has overall been financially successful so far, making over $237 million worldwide. Thus, what may have factored into its success?
The “FNAF 2” movie is plot-filled with many allusions to the game.
The movie begins with a simple but important scene that sets up the rest of the plot. Viewers are introduced to the main antagonist, “The Puppet,” also known as “The Marionette.”
Throughout the movie, The Puppet targets the main protagonists, Mike Schmidt, a past worker for the Freddy Fazebear Pizzeria, and his younger sister Abby Schmidt.
In multiple instances, the movie references the game franchise, and fans quickly caught onto them. The most famous one being the viral “har har har” meme, originating from a tiktok audio of a man making the noise the character Freddy makes in the game. In the movie, this was a plush teddy bear singing the audio.
Other recognizable references include the revealing of the Circus Baby animatronic, who comes in later versions of the game. This stirred up many fan theories for the rest of the movies due to the confusion of this character being in the movies so early on.

The quality of the acting and effectiveness of the emotions was generally portrayed well. Occasionally, the dialogue lacked energy, but the actors’ performances felt like it was formed by true emotions.
Other ways emotions were added into the movie were through the soundtrack. This stayed close to the game, keeping many common sounds, songs and noises. The nostalgic music induced more comfort and emotional impact on viewers.
Regarding the overall cinematography, the film was highly impressive when it came to the look of the animatronics. All of the main animatronics featured in this movie looked bone-chillingly realistic, with the jumpscares causing viewers’ hearts to skip a beat.
There were, however, certain special effects that could have used some work. For example, when The Puppet took over certain characters, the special effects looked very unconvincing. The costume was essentially facepaint with glowing eyes and edited long limbs that looked like a downgrade from the animatronics.
The movie mainly sets up the plot for a future film, leaving many viewers dissatisfied due to the predictable ending. Even so, it creates a clear path for a sequel.
From a fan’s perspective, the movie was visually appealing and satisfying. Not all of the game and movie plots were fully up to par, but it made sense to the different plots.
While “FNAF 2” was a great film for fans, it would be difficult to enjoy without knowing the references and storyline of the movie.
All in all, this movie is truly one for the fans. With all of the storyline and plot thrown at viewers with little explanation, it can be overwhelming to not have the context needed.
If you consider yourself a fan of the “FNAF” franchise, you would likely love this movie. Even if you aren’t a fan, the movies are great for the horror and eerie turns!
