In today’s world, many individuals, including myself, spend years hiding parts of themselves because we are afraid of being judged, excluded or misunderstood. Whether it is personality, beliefs, struggles or identity, we often feel pressure to change who we are to fit in with others.
Fear of rejection can make us feel like we have to hide important parts of ourselves from friends, classmates or even family.
Without self-acceptance, it is common to develop insecurity, anxiety and loneliness. Constantly rejecting who you truly are can damage mental health and lead to feelings of isolation.
Someone who feels forced to hide their true identity may begin to believe that they are not deserving of love, respect or even happiness.
However, true happiness cannot exist when someone is constantly pretending to be something they are not.
If not yourself, then what are you?
In a time full of trends and societal norms, individuality and uniqueness are lacking. One’s originality shouldn’t be something they’re scared to express.
Self-acceptance does not only mean outwardly expressing oneself but also accepting their emotions, their differences or even their identity.
Forget about being a “clean girl” or a “star boy.” Your personality and how you dress shouldn’t stem from trends. They should come from what’s inside.
Finding inner peace isn’t something that’s meant to be easy but speaking from experience, it’s best to start now. Teenage years are supposed to be spent learning who we truly are, so let’s use it to our advantage.
You need to figure out who you are before your frontal lobe fully develops, or else, you’ll be stuck in a reality that’s not for you. The first battle is your mind, and it’s your time to shine.
In a world full of 8 billion people, be the one that is different. Be you.
