Holder field renovations now underway

Because of drainage issues Holder Field has had in the past, SHS has had to cancel multiple scheduled baseball games after it rained, according to Robert Bohanan, Assistant Superintendent for Career Preparation. The baseball and softball fields used by SHS sports teams were in a dire need of a repair, according to Bohanan. Ellis Mechanical and the Perry Township Education Foundation have made those renovations possible by means of their donations.

“That field is been long time in need of some renovation due to poor drainage and poor grating on that field overall,” Bohanan said. “…Our field just can’t handle the amount of rain we get in the spring.”

As a former Perry Township student, the owner of Ellis Mechanical requested that the $62,500 he donated be used specifically for the 26-year-old Holder Field. Bohanan says he was also able to partner with PTEF in order to truly make this project possible. PTEF donated $125,000 for a total of $187,000 to be used at holder feild.

“It is something we’ve needed,’ head Baseball coach Mr. Scott Whitlock said.  “Coach Carpenter at Perry Meridian and I have worked very well together on really trying to look out for the benefit of the student athlete.”

Renovations to Holder field have already begun and Bohanan hopes to see them completed by Dec. 1 of this year.
