Incoming freshman to impact swimming seasons

The SHS boys and girls swimming teams are young, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

“We have a young team but a very strong team, especially on (our) girls side,” SHS swimming coach Matt Jefferies said. “Our boys team is growing and getting better so (we) need to continue the progress that we have over the last couple of years.”

The girls team went 8-4 last season while the boys team went 5-7.

Last season the Lady Cards broke the record in the 200 meter medley. That group consisted of senior Jaclyn Boyer, graduate Maddison Bethel-Brown and juniors Emma Lattimore and Brontie Wright. Jefferies thinks that both the boys and the girls team can break more records this season in spite of their age.

Senior Caroline Chappell and junior Fritz Laut say their teams can be pretty good this season because of a lot of the incoming freshmen.

“We have more people than last year so I expect that we are going to do better this year because we have more people which means that we can get more people into more events and fill up the events a lot better so we can score higher,” Laut said.

The girls have their first swim meet against Ben Davis at home on November 19th and the boys swim team will face Roncalli at home on November 24th.
