The SHS girl’s basketball team played against Northwest last Tuesday and won, 84-14. Tonight, they go against the Avon Orioles (0-6) at home. The Lady Cards beat Avon last year, 55-40. Assistant varsity coach Greg Burton thinks the team can compete with Avon this year. Some of the coaching staff scouted Avon. The coaches and girls have watched a lot of film. In practice, JV has tried to run some of Avon’s plays so that varsity knows how to stop Avon.

Burton says the varsity is prepared for them. One of the main keys for tonight is ball security and not turning over the ball. Burton says the girls are really good when they don’t turn the ball over. They have a chance at beating Avon if they focus on ball security.

“We play pretty solid defense, so if we can keep from turning the ball over and rebound, we will be really good,” Burton said.

Junior Lindsay Freije hopes the game is going to go good. She wants to win. She says they work better as a team this year than last year. During practice they have worked on a new defense to go against Avon.

“We worked on a defense that will help us keep their two main scorers from scoring and that will keep everything out of the middle of the court,” Freije said.
