Despite a third quarter power outage, the lights aren’t out for SHS’s hopes of winning a Marion County championship. Friday night SHS defeated their south side rival, the Roncalli Rebels, 70-43.

The win and the high margin of victory was a result of SHS playing better as a team and more people contributing on and off the stat sheet.

“Everybody bought into their role and they didn’t care about who scored,” Coach Kyle Simpson said.

Scoring wise, the scoring was more spread out among team members than it was in SHS’s loss to Franklin Central the Friday prior to the game. Against Roncalli, junior Paul Scruggs lead SHS in scoring as he had done against Franklin Central, but he only produced 27 percent of his team’s scoring as opposed to Friday when he was responsible for nearly 53 percent of his team’s score.

Senior Eli Walton also stepped up matching Scruggs’ total of 19 points against Roncalli.

SHS continues tournament play Wednesday against top ranked and undefeated North Central at Southport Fieldhouse.
