The Cards found success at the sectional meet having seven individuals qualify for the Regional match at Perry Meridian. The team finished 3rd place out of thirteen teams.

Robert Clark, Tiger Nguyen, Brett Wright, Josiah Coffenberry, Chad Rothwell and Dennis Serrano will all advance to the regional meet this Saturday. Clark (195) was the only wrestler to win his weight class, and won with a record of 39-3. Wright (152) placed 2nd with a record of 34-8. Nguyen (106) placed 4th with a record 16-16. Coffenberry (132) placed 4th with a record of 13-9, Rothwell (160) placed 3rd with a record of 31-14 and Serrano (170) placed 3rd with a record of 24-14.

Junior wrestler, Robert Clark, really feels that the team wrestled well. While the team performed well they still need to stay focused for the Regionals match.

“I think it’s always awesome to have a good team performance. It is important to know that every match is a new match and that you can’t skip over the first round and be thinking about the second round. So just focus one match at a time and you’ll get to the finals,” Clark said.

Coach Holden was very pleased about how his team performed on Saturday.

The guys who made it out should be very proud, and the guys who didn’t, have nothing of which to be ashamed,” Holden said.

He did think that they could place 2nd, but he also thinks they wrestled very well. The team will practice all week hoping for success in the Regional meet hosted by Perry Meridian.
