For the first time in 16 years, SHS won the basketball sectional championship  beating Ben Davis, 63-52.

Early in the game, SHS struggled defensively. After evening  up in the first quarter, SHS pulled away from Ben Davis in the second quarter. This run was mostly due to improved defense according to Coach Kyle Simpson.

“It didn’t go the way I wanted early, and we didn’t play very smart, but we figured some stuff out… and our defense continued to set the tone,” Simpson said.

Offensively, Junior Paul Scruggs provided a boost by scoring a game high of 25 points. This performance came after a Pike game in which he struggled to get to the rim. With his added scoring, he was able to help draw the defense away from Senior Joey Brunk who scored 15 points in the game.

The Cards now look to prepare for Saturday’s game against Connersville.
“We’ll take it one game at a time and do good stuff on Saturday,” Brunk said.
