Boys XC team tries to bounce back after losing star runner

Ty Conatser, Sports Writer

The boys cross country team will be competing this year after losing star runner Clayton Bowie. Bowie is now attending Ohio State University on a scholarship for track.

Most of the team’s meets are invitational tournaments, hosting several schools from all over Indiana.

The team will be coached by Mr. Herman Bueno. Bueno not only teaches at Southport Middle School, but he is also the boys and girls cross country coach for the middle school.

One dilemma for the team is there practice location. Everyday after school the boys have to load up, and drive to the middle school for practice, unlike most sports that stay on the high school’s campus for practice.

There are potential obstacles for the beginning of the season standing before the boys cross country team. The adjustment to practicing at the middle school and the graduation of an exceptional athlete are challenges the boys will have to overcome.
