Last night, the girls volleyball team went to Franklin Central to face the Flashes. The Cardinals came in with a record of 1-3, while the Flashes entered 0-1.

The Cards lost the first set 25-14. They kept it close throughout the second set, even leading at times until FC pulled away, winning the set 25-21. Franklin’s serve was a big part of the attack, ending with 12 aces in the match. Down two sets to none, the Cardinals got off to a fast start in the third set, with a 6-2 lead. After a FC timeout, the Flashes came out and rallied to win the set 25-19. This ended the match with FC winning in straight sets, 3-0.

“We knew that they were a good team,” junior Alex Cooper said. “They hit the ball hard and served hard and were smart players. We got tripped up at the end when they kept tipping and we couldn’t figure out how to get those balls up. Other than that we knew what they were gonna bring to the table.”

The loss brings the Cardinals’ record to 1-4. Southport is in action on Thursday, when they play Lawrence North at home.
