Here’s a look into what the King of the County boys basketball trophy chest contains
After winning an away game against the Lawrence North Wildcats 63-61 on Dec. 3, 2022, the Cards boys basketball team claimed the King of the County basketball trophy chest. The chest, which contains all types of Marion County basketball memorabilia, has been moved from school to school for many years. Each school in the county has a chance to take the chest from its pervious owner by beating them. So, when the Ben Davis Giants beat the Cards during the semi-final of the Marion County basketball tournament 63-52 on Jan. 13, 2023, the Giants took the chest home with them.
But during the month when the Cards had the chest, The Journal was able to look at all that it contained. Watch the video below to see SHS alum Steve Bean explain the significance of the trophy and some of its contents.
