Salem Ortega-Morales, Photos Editor
Hi! It’s Salem, and for the third and last time in a row, I am writing another staff bio. I’m a senior now, which is really hard to believe. I am this year’s Photos Editor. Going from a Culture reporter to here is a weird pipeline! I do quite a few things besides Journal, such as the Latino Advocacy Mentorship Program, Cards @ Camp, Cardinal Cadre and work. As of right now, I am still a McDonald’s employee for the next two weeks, and then I’m free! I love reading Junji Ito’s horror manga and learning German. I’m a huge DCU and Sonic fan. This year, I acquired my own Nikon camera, so I’m looking to start a photography business soon, so be on the lookout. Not only has my position changed this year, my number of pets has increased. I now have six dogs and five cats, and some chickens. Alas, some things never change. I am still your favorite Steve Lacy, Tyler the Creator, Arctic Monkeys and The Cure fan. This year’s staff looks very promising, and I cannot wait to bring you all this year’s photos to The Journal.
Caydence Davis, Photographer
Hi guys! My name is Caydence Davis, and I am a sophomore here at Southport High School. I’m also one of the photographers for The Journal this year. I am also involved in several other activities at SHS in addition to my role with The Journal. Those things include sports such as volleyball, basketball and possibly lacrosse. In the past, I’ve also participated in track and field and football. I’ve been a part of the Southport Music Department since 6th grade. However I’ve come a long way, and this year, I will be playing in the Advanced Band as a trombone player. Outside of school, I also like to spend time with my friends, whether we are at the mall or catching a movie.
Ava Campbell, Editor-in-Chief
Welcome back! My name is Ava Campbell, and I am honored to say that I am this year’s Editor-in-Chief of The Journal. Although the reality of senior year hasn’t hit me yet, I’m so blessed to be spending the end of my time at SHS with this amazing group of people. In my Journal career, I’ve been both the Sports Editor and a Features reporter. Outside of The Journal, I play the flute in our band. I also volunteer at Indianapolis Animal Care Services (adopt, don’t shop!), where I get to spend time helping dogs and cats whom I adore so much. I am a mother of two guinea pigs, whose names are Hamilton and Lafayette. You can guess, then, what I listen to in my free time. I also love baking, drinking boba, math and reading as many books as I can. Finally, I love you, dear reader, for caring about journalism! Let the fun begin!
Max Castro, Photographer
Hi, my name is Max Castro. I’m a photographer for The Journal and a sophmore. A few things that I like are traveling, the rain, art, music, decorating, reading and baking. Baking and rain are always pretty calming for me. One of my favorite books is “Girl In Pieces.” It's pretty intense in its description, but the psychology in it is always fascinating to me. I would like to either be a photographer or a psychologist when I become older.
