Dinnerware & Cutlery
Around the world, many colleges offer meal plans or a set amount of meals one can get. Depending on various factors, people can opt out of receiving a meal plan, but overall, many opt in. While meal plans sound good at times, they don’t always provide enough food for a month or might not work out for some. To be prepared, it can be helpful to bring some plates, bowls and utensils for one to use whenever one might need to cook a meal or a simple snack.
“So often (in) college, you’ll have a meal plan, but it won’t necessarily give you enough meals to have every single meal in the dining hall,” SHS alumna Lucy Hiller said. “So having a plate and some silverware is really nice because that way I can have some food in the room.”
Storage Containers
Depending on a college’s housing, a dorm might have one to four people living in it. Because of this, not everyone will have enough space to place their items or to be organized. In many cases, college students may have to buy some sort of storage container to save space around their room.
“I have probably around seven storage compartments, so I found that (to be) a good number for me to store everything I need,” SHS alumnus Dawt Sang said. “Definitely (have) enough storage units in your rooms, and that should help you stay organized.
Charging Cords
Based on one’s essentials, charging cords are an item that people use everyday. In college, most students will have a charging cord on them in case their devices are out of battery during class or if a friend doesn’t have one.
If carrying a cord everywhere is not optimal, consider purchasing a power bank with various inputs for charging various devices with different ports. It is always good to bring an extra charging cord or a power bank everywhere because one never knows.
“Bring way more charging cords that you think you’d need … ,” Hiller said.” They always go missing. I think charging cords were something that I didn’t realize that I was gonna need.”
Memorabilia
Although many choose to stay in the state they live in to go to college, some decide to move to another state or live abroad, which leads to people becoming homesick or missing everything they had back in their home. In order to not miss them or forget them, it is good to bring some pieces that might have some significance to that person or place, such as pictures.
“I have photographs from home … ,” Sang said. “That’s how I make it feel like home.”
