With finals approaching rapidly, some students may begin to feel stressed or nervous.
While finals can feel dreadful, they are an essential factor in finishing out the school year on a good note and finishing classes with good grades.
“(Studying for finals) is important because it helps get you mentally prepared and mentally in the right headspace so you know that you have worked hard for the test coming up, and so you have a sense of confidence that helps you do better on the test as well,” senior Sydney Hartman said.
If one feels as if studying for finals is taking its toll, here are some of the tips the SHS community recommends in order to ensure one is successful while preparing for these exams.
According to math teacher Christina Ferguson, one should always make sure that they are completing their study guide, if one is provided, as it helps give them an idea of what will be on the final.
After completing the study guide, one can determine what they need to study more and begin to fully comprehend the things they don’t understand completely.
“Most teachers will give (their) students a study guide or a study packet, so I think for sure that is the biggest bang for your buck to make your way through that,” Ferguson said.
Hartman believes that if one is struggling, they should ask their teachers for help.
In most cases, teachers are always willing to help students out with anything that they are struggling with, whether that be for an assignment or an overview of the units.
“Ask teachers for help,” Hartman said, “because they are more than willing to help, but you just have to actually go to them and ask them.”
While studying, it is important to make sure one is putting in the effort to get a good grade, says senior Paige Mayer.
If someone doesn’t put in the effort, it shows. Therefore, it is important that one is doing anything and everything they can in order to ensure they will pass their final.
“You don’t want to look back and regret not doing better because you didn’t want to put more effort into it,” Mayer said. “Just so you can feel like you are accomplishing something and be more proud of your work, then I think you should try.”
Though finals can be a stressful experience for some students, they should know that while these tests do play a big role, it is also important to end the year on a good note and enjoy it.
“Don’t just (study for finals) because teachers and other people are telling you to do it. Do it because you want to have the sense of readiness when going into your exams,” Hartman said.
