Many people have said that The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s sequel is “frenetic” or “a mess,” while others have said it’s “breathtaking.”
On April 1, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” was released as a sequel to the original movie that was released two years ago.
So far, the movie has been a huge success, making over $629 million globally and surpassing the initial budget of $110 million within days of its release.
The beginning of the movie is set in the Comet Observatory, a station in space where Princess Rosalina and the Lumas, friendly star-like beings that assist Mario by transforming into celestial objects, reside. While reading a bedtime story to the Lumas, Rosalina is suddenly interrupted by Bowser Jr, who abducts her as revenge for what Mario and Luigi did to his dad, Bowser, in the previous film.
In the Mushroom Kingdom, one of the Lumas finds Peach and requests help to save Rosalina. After the toads in the kingdom beg her not to go, without telling anyone, Peach and the Luma travel away into space to save her older sister. This leaves the protection of her kingdom in Mario, Luigi and Yoshi’s hands.

I thought that both the music and the animation in this film were breathtaking. They took iconic mario tracks and remixed them to fit the movie, making them recognizable but different from the originals which reminded me of the Mario games.
After watching both movies, I felt that the sequel has funnier jokes that both children and adults would enjoy.
Even though the film looks and sounds amazing, one complication with the movie that I noticed while watching is that it’s very frantic because the plot suddenly changes at many parts of the movie.
One example of this is near the beginning. Bowser seems to be changing for the better by becoming friends with Mario, Luigi and Yoshi, even making a sacrifice to help them. But as soon as he reunites with his son, Bowser Jr., he gets convinced that friends are a weakness and the built up friendship plot is suddenly ditched.
Another thing that I noticed while watching the film is that it is extremely fast paced.
Although a lot of different characters from the Mario franchise are included, these one-off scenes feel rushed and utilized in such a way that it feels like a waste of the characters because they could have played a bigger role in the story.
Even though the film is very frenetic and jumps around a lot, overall, I feel that the film is a lot funnier and more visually appealing than the original. But it lacked plot quality. I still think that any fan of the Mario franchise who enjoys seeing characters and references from the games will enjoy it.
