The SHS boys soccer team is coming off of a 12-4-1 season, losing to Center Grove, 2-1 in regionals. The team has won the past four sectional titles and would like to improve their success in the postseason by winning a regional title.

Their entire defense and goalkeeper graduated but the entire midfield will be returning. Despite their losses, they would like to continue their success this season.

Senior Van Lian, second-team all-state player, will be returning. Lian led the team in goals and shots with 15 goals and 56 shots.

The team will also have junior Bawi Phutin and senior Thang Hmung back. Phutin is a regional Olympic Development Program player for club and Hmung was honorable mention all-state last year. Phutin had the second most shots on the team with 38.

The varsity team will have plenty of players that have moved up from junior varsity. The JV team went 10-0-2.

Players that are likely to get a lot of time are juniors David Bel and Cooper Davis as well as senior Josh Springer, according to head coach Mr. Josh Brown.

A goal for this season Brown says is to win Conference Indiana. The team has been in the top three for conference the last three years. The team would like to win the conference this year for the first time ever.

In the offseason, a lot of the boys played club soccer to prepare for the season. All of the Chin players played in a church Chin league. However, as a school team they practiced twice a day during the summer.

“We are very excited about this season. We feel like we have one of our most talented JV and Varsity squads,” Brown said.
