Senior Clark Wilson gets ready to dive into the pool for his race. Clark ended up getting third in all three of his races during the Cardinal Classic.

With both the boys and girls swim teams picking up a win over Beech Grove earlier in the week, the SHS Cards wanted to keep the streak going. The Cards had their next meet on Dec. 4, the Cardinal Classic. This was a six team meet where the girls ended up finishing on top, and the boys placed third.

“Everybody swam fast, everybody was excited about the meet,” head coach Matt Jeffries said. “Times reflected that.”

On the boys team, senior Clark Wilson led the Cards. Wilson got third place in the 500 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle. He ended up scoring 24 of the team’s 198 points. Junior Daniel Sanchez also helped the boys in their finish. He got second in the 100 yard freestyle and got fourth in the 50 yard freestyle.  For diving, freshman Hayden Black scored 254.05 points and got second place.

“(I’m) just trying to stay consistent, just not slowing down,” Wilson said.

The girls team ended the meet with 362 points, which was enough to secure them the first place trophy. The girls team had five girls finish first in their respective strokes. Senior Madeline Jarvis finished in first place for the 100 yard butterfly race and first in the 200 yard medley relay alongside teammates senior Caroline Reinke, sophomore Karlie Dodd and junior Noelle Bryan. Reinke won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.26. Dodd placed first in the 200 yard individual medley and Bryan finished first in the 50 yard freestyle.

“We just plan to swim fast,” Jeffries said.
