SHS prom is back to normal for the first time in two years

Chips+all+in

It’s been two years.

Two years since SHS has hosted a normal prom dance for students. Two years since everyone has gotten together for what is, quite possibly, the most talked-about event in the scholastic year. Two years since cheesy prom-posals and the matching dress-and-suit combinations. Now, it’s all coming back.

After being canceled in 2020 because of COVID-19 and being hosted completely backwards for seniors only in 2021, SHS prom is making its way towards normalcy.

Student council has decided that this year’s prom will follow a casino theme and be held in the prestigious Indiana Roof Ballroom, the same venue SHS has used in previous years.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 14 and last from 7 to 10:30 p.m.. The tickets will cost $60, purchasable by students in the SHS bookstore.

“It was stuck between casino and masquerade,” junior class vice president December Tling said. “I think it was one of the other student council members that brought it up that they wanted a casino theme.”

During the dance, snacks will be offered alongside casino-type games with chips that students and their guests, fellow Cardinals or not, can earn at the dance.

Students attending prom can bring guests that do not go to SHS, but they must be approved by the school and be under the age of 21.

“That is the best thing for me,” English teacher Dawn Fowerbaugh said. “Everybody is phenomenally dressed. It’s just a great event. A great, great event.”
