In a world full of controversies, there are quite a few obvious topics that should not have to be thought about twice. A clear one being the depths behind racism which should never remain overlooked and should continue to be fought against.
But, in the midst of all that goes on in our world, some ideas remain unnoticed.
One being the twisting opinions regarding feminism, a concept so beautifully cherished by many women.
Feminism is not only the foundation of women supporting one another, but the thought of women breaking down the barriers society has deeply planted into our world through the use of traditional gender roles.
Unfortunately, many interpret this concept as a competition against men and as a threat to how the world may treat men differently afterwards.
Through the eyes of women, feminism has been a continuous fight for their rights.
If we dive deep into the contents of history, we can see how society stripped women of their right to vote, own land or the opportunity to earn equal wages. But their success in gaining the right to vote highlights their perseverance and strength to overcome challenges.
Even as women became familiar with their freedoms, the discrimination continues to follow them as society places restrictions on their rights. One instance being a woman only being able to independently own land with her husband’s permission.
This issue highlights how society has placed men on a pedestal, while women are still trying to climb their way up.
If men are freely given this advantage, it is only fair to voice that this movement is not a threat to men, nor is it a fight against them.
Feminism is a fight against society to have the opportunity to be treated equally. Feminism is women continuously fighting to prove they deserve the same respect and opportunities men have held in their hands for so long. These issues highlight how society has placed men on a pedestal, while women are still trying to climb their way up.
If men possess this advantage of authority, it is important to voice that this movement is not a threat to men, nor is it a fight.
