School is back in session! With alarms blaring before the crack of dawn and planners growing crowded with each new assignment, stress levels continue to rise.
Amidst all the academic chaos, students must also piece together outfits for each coming day.
To some, outfits are simply just an arrangement of clothes, but to others, style is a form of expression.
For one, junior Lai Billy Thang believes that outfits convey and elevate his confidence.
“Outfits are more of a confidence boost,” Thang said. “It helps me express how confident I am feeling or how proud of myself I am feeling that day.”
For others, dressing nicely helps set the tone for the day.
“I believe that dressing nicely for school is important because I feel like what you wear really dictates your mood and how you act for the day,” sophomore Brooklyn Deckard said.
But with the seasons and trends constantly changing throughout the school year, finding round-the-clock pieces that uphold the dress code and effectively express one’s true character can be difficult.
Difficult, yes. But achievable? Most certainly!
The key to successfully building a versatile wardrobe that reflects one’s true self within the constraints of the weather and the dress code is simple.
Centering a wardrobe around pieces that best correlate to each season, all while occasionally relying on simple, timeless pieces that are interchangeable throughout periods of change, fashionably and environmentally, can help unlock an impressive outfit palette!
Incorporate these pieces into your wardrobe, and the compliments will be on their way!
Star of the show
Tops serve as the heart of an outfit. They can make or break an entire arrangement of clothes, so gathering a diverse, yet versatile range of tops is a must.
Look for nice-fitting, short and long sleeve tops with minimal words or patterns for a simple, flexible look. These tops are interchangeable throughout seasons and also allow for layering.
To spice it up, purchasing a few cardigans or sweaters can add a touch of sophistication and elegance to your outfit.
(Seasonal spin)

For the light and breezy spring and summer days, babydoll tops and light blouses can illuminate a girl’s look and give them a chance to radiate alongside the sun. For male students, graphic t-shirts and short-sleeve poplin shirts can make a statement.
However, for autumn days, in which the air feels heavy and crisp, or when the chilly school air piques shivers, opting for a cardigan, knits or a clean hoodie with a pair of baggy jeans can provide warmth for everyone that fuels productivity.
Pants
While tops remain the star of the show, pants ensure that you can smoothly pair cute and comfort together. For one, jeans are essential to every wardrobe, and they are a go-to for every season. Securing a pair of black, blue and white jeans can allow for versatility across a variety of styles and patterns.
When the weather starts to gradually get warmer, mini skirts and flowy dresses can add a touch of flair to a girly outfit. For a masculine look, baggy jean shorts (jorts) and pin-striped shorts can help maintain a solid look.
But if the sun is nowhere to be found and the chilly winter’s winds sweep the air, sweatpants can prevent any frostbite.
Enhancing your Wardrobe

Tops and pants are the foundation of an outfit, but going the extra mile to decorate it through accessories and pops of color can really add the cherry on top.
For one, creating a balance of unique colors that coordinate well together can help elevate your look.
“I think the most important components of an outfit are definitely color composition,” Thang said.
Aside from color composition, jewelry is a universal accessory that can add the finishing touch to a look. Earrings and necklaces add shimmer to an outfit, while gold watches and scarves offer a timeless, sleek look.
Ending
Now, before you step out and strut your stuff, don’t forget the most important part of your look: confidence. You can coordinate and accessorize your outfit all you want, but confidence helps your outfit not only stand out, but also shine among others.
Along with confidence, make sure that each outfit is a true reflection of who you are. Don’t feel pressured to keep up with the latest trends or fit in with the crowd. Each individual has their own unique voice and style, and you owe it to yourself to express that.
Dress to impress, not to conform.
“I believe that literally whatever you think expresses your style is the best for you,” Deckard said.
