On one hand, the new “Superman” movie, this time directed by James Gunn, is like so many others about the Man of Steel.
Like in other movies, Superman (David Corenswet) has an emotional weakness. He has to learn to find the balance between his Kryptonian alien behaviors and being brought up as a regular human when he is a child. Like in other versions, he moves from being a bystander as a journalist to the hero who saves the world from the conflicts it faces, and that plays into how he carries himself.
But there were many different controversies. But some of the main ones were how the movie was based on empathy and immigration, and how it can be made out to be political.
It was announced by Gunn that “Superman” is about empathy and immigration, mainly about America and an immigrant who came and populated the country. The Man of Steel turns out to be an undocumented immigrant from another planet. Words are being put onto something that has been part of the story line for many years, when Superman was just known for his powers and being a hero.

Other controversies state that the movie is very political. While there are movies that are political or have a strong sense of, this movie seems to gain extra attention for its alleged political messages.
The controversy of immigration takes different variations of disagreements, one of those is the topic of being an outsider can be very sensitive for some. Viewers of the movie aren’t completely certain about the accuracy of the life of an immigrant due to the director.
Many articles claim that movies are usually political just because they are a form of art. But some forms of art, movie-wise, can be more direct in their political view to the viewers.
There are many mixed opinions from the audience as to how political the film was.
While it has some cons, it also has some pros.
Some of the main pros are the tone of the movie and how it focuses on empathy. A main pro is that it has a heartfelt tone and a way to make it feel very emotional and close to the viewer’s heart. However, this focus on empathy can also be taken the wrong way and become a con.
The actors and actresses were all very well-rounded for the roles. They knew how to play their characters while still having their own small quirks.
It is worth watching if there is an attraction to the 90’s and 2000’s comics due to them being in a similar range of style, as well as incorporating some of the same features.
The movie is a mid-level film due to the fact that it doesn’t match the same purely entertainment purpose of the past “Superman” films. But it shows many different areas that are more political and can be entertaining to some, but can be mainly political.
